General Duties/Responsibilities:
The SGA Vice President, in this student leadership role:
- Co-manages SGA affairs alongside the SGA President
- Assumes the role of SGA president for the remainder of the term (or when needed) in the event the current president is no longer in office
- Attends events, meetings, or other required SGA attendance in place of the SGA president when needed
- Maintains structure and process for the internal function of the SGA board, such as keeping board members on task, facilitating conflict when needed, and general process improvement
- Chairs the Student Senate; recruits, selects, trains, and develops senators; facilitates bi-weekly meetings with senators; tracks senator attendance and participation at SGA Town Halls and other Student Senate required participation
- Facilitates senator updates at each town hall when senator is unable to attend
- Helps draft SGA bylaws and resolutions
- Collaborates with Student Life to facilitate Dragon Connection Fair (fall & spring)
- Meets with SGA advisor biweekly or as needed for holistic check-ins, needs, and progress updates
- Attends all general body, town hall, and board meetings, club mixer, Dragon Connection Fair, and monthly meeting with HCC President/VPSSParticipates in Student Advocacy Day, including preparation and follow-up meetings each spring semester
- Participates in Student Advocacy Day, including preparation and follow-up meetings each spring semester
- Assists the Office of Student Life Staff with various projects, presentations, assignments, and events not limited to New Student Orientation (fall & spring), Welcome Week (fall & spring), Recruitment Week, connection weeks, and open houses
- Attends and participates in workshops, seminars, conferences, or caucuses as deemed appropriate by the SGA board and advisor
- Attends August and January Student Leader Retreat (August 15, 19-21, 23, 2024/January 2025)
- Collaborates with other Student Life student leaders on special projects
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Position Requirements:
The student selected for this position must:
- Work with the SGA board to facilitate a weekly work schedule.
- Attend, engage, and/or complete all specified meetings, training, events, retreats etc.
- Maintain a cumulative and semester grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.5
- Must be registered and maintain at least 6 credit hours per semester
- Abide by the Student Code of Conduct as specified in the Student Handbook
- Work well in team oriented settings
- Have a strong desire to develop leadership skills
- Demonstrate outstanding follow-through and attention to detail
- Be able to successfully pass a background check
Compensation:
This position will be selected by an application and interview process facilitated by the elected SGA president, after the SGA election process concludes each spring semester. When all duties and responsibilities are completed successfully, the selected candidate will be paid an hourly rate of $17.00 for an average workweek of 10 to 15 hours. The candidate selected is expected to serve in the position for the entire academic year.
