
Student Government Association (SGA) Secretary & Treasurer
General Duties/Responsibilities:
The SGA Secretary & Treasurer, in this student leadership role:
- Maintains all minutes for SGA general meetings, town halls, executive board meetings, Student Senate, and other SGA related meetingsOrganizes the sga@howardcc.edu email by placing the appropriate emails in each board member’s folder

- Organizes and regularly updates the SGA Google Drive, Campus Groups, and other organizational spaces to maintain appropriate records
- Supports documentation and record-keeping of SGA information including SGA Elections and Campaign guidelines, addendums to the constitution
- Creates and maintains timelines and checklists for SGA sponsored programs and initiatives not limited to the elections process, club mixer, SGA meetings and town halls, and club awards; and sends regular reminders to the board to facilitate a timely process
- Markets SGA initiatives such as, general body and town hall meetings, club mixer, Dragon Connection Fair, and Recruitment Week to the on-campus and off-campus community (where appropriate)Leads marketing efforts, including maintenance and content creation for the SGA flyers, calendar updates, and works with Student Life to ensure SGA marketing is included in the weekly email, (virtual) bulletin boards, social media, etc.

- Works with SGA club liaison to manage distribution of club marketing materials, including submissions to student life, IT, and SGA communications director for posting to bulletin boards, emails, digital signs, social media, etc.
- Submits logistical needs for SGA sponsored initiatives such as work orders for room reservations, audiovisual, and event set-up requests
- Initiates improvement of internal and external processes as they relate to SGA function and scope
- Collaborates with Student Life to facilitate Dragon Connection Fair (fall & spring)
- Meets with SGA advisor biweekly or as needed for holistic check-ins, needs, and progress updates
- Attends all general body, town hall, and board meetings, club mixer, and Dragon Connection Fair (club rush),
- Participates in Student Advocacy Day, including preparation and follow-up meetings each spring semester
- Assists the Office of Student Life Staff with various projects, presentations, assignments, and events not limited to New Student Orientation (fall & spring), Welcome Week (fall & spring), Recruitment Day, connection weeks, and open houses
- Attends and participates in workshops, seminars, conferences, or caucuses as deemed appropriate by the SGA board and advisor
- Attends August and January Student Leader Retreat (August 15, 19-21, 23, 2024/January 2025)
- Collaborates with other Student Life student leaders on special projects
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Position Requirements:
The student selected for this position must:
- Work with the SGA board to facilitate a weekly work schedule.
- Attend, engage, and/or complete all specified meetings, training, events, retreats etc.
- Maintain a cumulative and semester grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.5
- Must be registered and maintain at least 6 credit hours per semester
- Abide by the Student Code of Conduct as specified in the Student Handbook
- Work well in team settings
- Have a strong desire to develop leadership skills
- Demonstrate outstanding follow-through and attention to detail
- Be able to successfully pass a background check
Compensation:
This position will be selected by an application and interview process facilitated by the elected SGA president and vice president after the SGA elections process concludes each spring semester. When all duties and responsibilities are completed successfully, the selected candidate will be paid an hourly rate of $17.00 for an average workweek of 10 to 15 hours. The position comes with added perks like access to Student Life spaces, hands-on leadership development, and extensive resume experience.
The candidate selected is expected to serve in the position for the entire academic year.
